WRITING ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB

I’ve always been a big and bold person, so when it came to writing on my website, I had to tone it down a bit. I am not pastel person AT ALL but knowing that a website is supposed to be visually appealing to the visitor, made me use a little discretion in my selection(hey, that rhymes!). When I took digital publishing, the professor said, it’s not about what you want or like, it is about what the client wants. It kind of broke my heart because I felt that “hey, my work is good and they will love anything I do, lol! That is so arrogant and WRONG and I did get a chance to experience that. Mom always says a bought lesson is better than a taught lesson. She is absolutely correct. After feedback from my client, I knew, next time listen… you idiot!
I’ve learned to keep my underlining to a minimum. Everything can’t be the most important thing. Also, when I had to edit my own work, I’ve said “well, this is perfect.” But, I’ve grown over the last few years. Today, I can possibly edit myself right down to a blank page. Now, that is another conversation altogether.
Writing on a website is different. There are a few things, I personally keep in mind when writing. First, you have to make sure your font is big enough and appropriate so your visitors can read it, but not get blown off the page. Also, clarity is the key. Tell me you’re intelligent, without telling me you’re intelligent. All of those 13 letter words you want to use to impress…miss me with all of that, please. Also, we have an attention span of a gnat, so skip some of those details. When Tik Tok went to ten minutes…it was hard for me to adjust…as a viewer.
Lastly, tons of links, that’s a no go. But my Heavenly Father is still working with me on that, cause who doesn’t love a good link.
